See next spring again and Welcome back！ 雄化カモと冬鳥の初認、11月のキビタキ

The Pintail x Eurasian Wigeon Hybrid Duck（also masculinization）has come back to my patch. Welcome back! And my last day of Barn Swallow 2025 was on October 26.

オナガガモxヒドリガモの雄化個体（通称：オドリガモ）を、2025年10月05日に今冬も確認しました。お帰りなさい！

05/Oct/2025 オナガガモxヒドリガモの雄化個体

2015年11月04日から飛来を確認しているので、満10年です。

飛来前には、2025年9月12、18、21、22日、10月01日に確認に行きましたが、これらの日には確認できなかったので、10月2-5日の期間に飛来したと思われます。2024年秋は9月28日に初認で、それよりも今年はやや遅い記録となりました。これだけ長期間に飛来を継続的に確認できているのは、私が見失っていた期間の観察記録の情報提供をいただきましたS.Aさんのおかげです。改めて御礼を申し上げます。

I have high hopes to see a large number of migratory birds in this winter, as the arrival of winter birds in recent years has been delayed and the number of birds arriving has been very small. I hope that this winter will be a wonderful time not only experienced birders, but also beginners, can enjoy birdwatching and have good opportunities to see many birds.

下画像は10月01日に飛来を確認したヒドリガモ雄化個体で、これもS.Aさんが継続観察されていたものです。その後一時的に観察できなくなりましたが、この場所で11月11日にS.Aさんによって滞在が確認されました。

A female Narcissus Flycatcher and Red-rumped Swallow were still present as late as November 2nd. In the past, Japanese Thrushes have even been observed in the forest until December 31st. It seems summer birds may be departing for warmer place later, or perhaps their wintering areas are shifting to higher latitudes around the globe.

9月18日にモズの高鳴初認、自宅周辺でのジョウビタキ初認は10月5日、ツグミは10月26日初認でした。2025年ツバメの終認は10月26日の1羽（複数羽同時確認は10月3日）と、例年よりも随分と遅くまで確認できたのが意外でした。10月31日に雑木林ポイントskでシメ、カシラダカ、11月1日にルリビタキ、11月2日にベニマシコ（声）やマヒワ、ツグミ初認し、追加でふらっと午後に出かけた観察ポイントのKでハイタカを2回確認できたので、冬の小鳥の移動と共に猛禽類もやって来ている印象を受けました。みなさん、本当にお帰りなさい！

ちなみに11月2日は、夏鳥のコシアカツバメとキビタキ雌（11月8日訪問時には確認できず）もいました。しばし季節交差の時間を楽しみたいと思います。

10月の確認種 My Bird List in Octber

Every year, I record the birds I observe in the Japanese Bird Checklist (8th edition). My bird year list 2025 as of October 31st reached 232.

毎年、見聞した鳥を日本産鳥類目録（今年から第8版）で記録しています。渡り途中と思われるサメビタキ、ツルシギ、オオコノハズクやアオバズクなどを観察できたので、10月31日の種数チェックでは232種（外来種5種 ガビチョウ、カオグロガビチョウ、コジュケイ、コブハクチョウ、ホンセイインコを含む）となりました。

11/Oct/2025 Greater White-fronted Goose

2025年の初見種ではないですが、日本海側の海岸林でクロツグミのほか、シロハラやツグミなども見られました。

09/Oct/2025 Brambling

アトリの群れがミズキの実に飛来している様子を初めて見たり、シマアジが観察機会が多かった上に一群の個体数も多かったりして、私にとって興味深い出会いが続きました。

19/Oct/2025 Grey-faced Buzzard

東風が強かった日の早朝、その風を使って高度を上昇できても向かい風の影響なのか、高空から滑翔を始めても押し戻されてしまう様子を何度も観察しました。

On early mornings with strong wind, I saw Grey-faced Buzzards repeatedly that even when able to gain altitude using the air currents, the effect of the headwind seemed to push us back, despite starting to glide southwards. I understood the difficulty of the hawk migrating on its own wings. Also we successfully watched an Amur falcon and a Hobby.

狙っても見つけるのが難しいヒメカマキリを見つけてくださった方がいて、久しぶりに観察することができました。これは本当に嬉しかったです！関東ではほとんど見ることができない種で、木漏れ日のあるような水場の樹上を好むと言われているですが、発見場所はそのような条件ではなく、どこかへ移動の途中だったのかもしれません。

これまでとは少し時期が後ろにずれた訪問でしたが、とても興味深い観察ができた楽しい旅でした。Sdさんご夫妻には、貴重なお話に加えて島の新たな魅力を教えていただきました。本当にありがとうございました。また、車内で楽しくお話をしてくださったTnさんには厚く御礼を申し上げます。

2025年のタカの渡り観察は、この島の訪問で終了となりました。

Hawk Migration 2025 vol.3

タカ渡りの観察へポイントのメッカ、白樺峠へ行きました。

I went to Shirakaba-Touge Pass in Nagano, one of the renowned hawk watching sites, on the morning of 3rd October. 

03/Oct/2025 Grey-faced Buzzard

I observed a flock of up to 16 Grey-faced Buzzards, the total to 39 birds by noon. Additionally, 4 Oriental Honey Buzzards and 15 Japanese Sparrowhawks passed through. According to the official record for that day, approximately 250 Grey-faced Buzzards migrated, most passed during the afternoon.

当日の公式記録を見ると250羽ほどのサシバが渡ったようですので、多くは午後に渡ったようです。私は午前中のみの観察で、サシバの群れが最大16羽のタカ柱が見られ、最終的には39羽を見送りました。そのほかにハチクマ4羽、ツミ15羽を観察しました。今秋初のジョウビタキにも出会えて、夜の長時間運転の疲れも吹っ飛びました。

早朝に現地へ行く前に立ち寄ったコンビニの電線では小鳥が群れていましたが、よく見ると全部ニュウナイスズメで驚きました。帰りにも同じ場所で探しましたが、1羽もいなかったので、渡りの途中の休息と私の休憩が偶然にも同じ場所だったようです。

Russet Sparrow

At a rest stop before reaching my destination on a long drive, I spotted a flock of small birds on the power lines in the early morning and observed them through my binoculars. Upon closer inspection, I was surprised to find they were all Russet Sparrow. Elsewhere, when I saw the slightest movement of grass in the undergrowth, the bird was a male Siberian Rubythroat！

鳥の動きのある時期は、一つ一つの鳥の気配を大切にして確認していく大切さを改めて感じた旅でした。

Hawk Migration 2025 vol.2

友人Nmさんのお誘いを受けて、東北地方での渡りの観察に挑戦しました。

At my birding friend's suggestion, we challenged observing migratory hawks in Tōhoku. Unfortunately, we were unable to observe any birds of prey actually migrating, but thanks to his researching locations with high environmental potential on maps and taking me around various spots, we met 79 species of bird  over the 4 days.

Hawk Migration 2025 vol.1

2025年のタカ渡り観察を9月下旬から始めました。観察初日は晴天・北寄りの風で、前日までの2日間は天気がよくなかったので、タカが渡るのでは？と期待して出発しましたがこの日はほとんど飛びませんでした。

I started watching the raptor migration in late September 2025. The first day around my house was good sunny with a northerly wind (and the weather had been bad two days before! ), so I set off in the hope that the hawks would migrate. However only a few Buzzards were seen.

午後に帰り道の水辺に立ち寄ったところ、シマアジ１群で8羽（後でもう一羽確認し、最終的には合計9羽）と、タカブシギ、エリマキシギ、オグロシギなどを観察。楽しい一日でした。翌日も同所を訪問したところ、サシバ174羽とハチクマは17羽の群れに遭遇できました。自宅からそれほど遠くない観察場所で、この数字の渡りに巡り会えたのは嬉しかったです。

 21/Sep/2025 Garganey

私の観察ポイントで多くのタカが飛んだその日は白樺峠で3,000羽以上のサシバの渡りがあったとJさんから連絡が来ました。この日は日本の多くのポイントで動きがあったようなので、日本タカ渡りdayだったようです。現地に行かれた皆さんは、さぞ楽しまれたことでしょう。

The next day, on the 22nd, I was excited to see several Grey-faced Buzzards fly by immediately after my arrival. At 10:22, there were 174 Grey-faced (1st : 84, 2nd : 35, 3rd : 55), including 17 Honey Buzzards！
