Nocturnal Birds

I went to 2 places in Japan on 7-9th and 18-19th in June to have nice times of nocturnal birds, Owls and Jungle Nightjar. I also could hear calls of Lesser Cuckoo, Hodgson's hawk-cuckoo, White's Thrush, Eurasian Scops-owl and so on.

I could see white spot on his own wing and throat with no light!  

A recorder set up at 02: 00-06: 00 on 19th for recording dawn chorus has quite interesting result of sub-alpine bird songs such as Sakhalin leaf-warbler, Red-flanked Bluetail, Japanese Robin, Wren and Japanese leaf warbler.

6月上旬〜中旬にかけて、西日本と東日本でそれぞれ1回ずつ、夜行性鳥類を観察してきました。地元の方にご案内いただいたのですが、ヨタカやフクロウ類などの他、ジュウイチやホトトギスなどを確認でき、とても楽しい時間でした。西日本では、ヨタカの垂直ホバリングや地上行動の数々は見たのは初めてでとても印象的でしたし、東日本では、2羽のヨタカが追いかけっこをしている様子のほか、02:00-06:00に仕掛けたレコーダーには、ヨタカやホトトギス、ジュウイチの声のほか、亜高山帯（標高1,900m）の鳥たちのコーラスもしっかり収録されており、なかなかおもしろい結果になりました。それぞれの場所でご案内くださった御二方に、心からの御礼を申し上げます。
