Hawk Migration in Spring 2026

雨や曇りが続いた後の快晴の日、多くのタカが渡ることを期待して出かけたところ、サシバとノスリを合わせて10羽の渡りを確認しました。天候や風向きから考えて、もう少し多くのタカが渡ることを予測していましたが、実際は少ない結果になりました。一番近いタカ渡り観察ポイントでの確認数公式発表もこの日は一桁でしたので、動きが少ない日だったようです。

The 3rd gifted us a day of crystalline clarity - perfect weather for hawks to begin their migration after a rainy start on April 1st and 2nd, I thought.

Unfortunately, the raptors clearly hadn’t read the script. I counted migrating only 7 Grey-faced Buzzards and 3 Eastern Buzzards. It seems the migration routes in my patch differ between spring and autumn. Perhaps they know something I don't.

The 12th Anniversary 開設12年

おかげさまで本日2026年4月21日に、このブログの開設12年を迎えました。多くの方がご訪問くださったことが私の継続への力となり、この投稿がちょうど1600投稿目でした。「ブログを始めてみたらいかがですか」と背中を押してくれたtingさん、そして読者の皆様に心より感謝申し上げます。

Today marks the 12th anniversary of this blog. Incredibly, this is also my 1,600th post. I’m truly grateful to everyone who has stopped by and spent time here.

3月の確認種 My Bird List in March

毎年、見聞した鳥を日本産鳥類目録第8版で記録しています。3月31日の種数チェックでは1月からの累計で126種（外来種4種ガビチョウ、コジュケイ、ホンセイインコ、ドバトを含む）となりました。3月19日にツバメとイワツバメが2026年の夏鳥初認となり、30日には上空を北へ向かって飛翔するサシバに会いました。

It was good experiences to encounter Pallas's Rosefinch, Ring-necked Duck, Reef Heron, some seabirds, Asian House Martin and migrating Grey-faced Buzzard.

New species & Rediscoveries after 50years トカラムシクイ & コマダラキーウィ

I have got big news. A pair of the Little Spotted Kiwi, it was rediscovered on the main island of New Zealand for the first time in 50 years, has two chicks in 2026, and a new species of warbler inhabiting the Tokara Islands in Japan was recognized officially.

50年ぶりに本島で再発見されニュージーランドでコマダラキーウィ Little Spotted Kiwi に雛がいることが確認され、日本ではトカラ列島に生息するムシクイ類が新種として認定されたことを知りました。

The Tokara Leaf Warbler, previously considered to be the Iijima's Leaf Warbler that inhabits the Tokara Islands, has now been recognized as a separate species. It is believed that the Iijima's Leaf Warbler and the Tokara Leaf Warbler, diverged between 2.8 million and 3.2 million years ago.

トカラムシクイはこれまでトカラに生息するイイジマムシクイとされていたものが独立種として認められたもので、日本で新種が認められたのは、1981年に沖縄本島におけるヤンバルクイナ以来45年ぶりで、大発見です。

イイジマムシクイとトカラムシクイは280万～320万年前に分岐していたそうです。見た目は似ていても、DNA解析をすることで日本列島やトカラ列島の生物相をより詳細に知ることができるようになったこと、そしてその解明のために日々尽力している学者の皆さんに心の底から敬意を表したいと思います。日本産鳥類は本種の発見で自然分布は2026年3月現在で645種となりました。

ヒレンジャク Japanese Waxwing

美術館へ行った帰りに立ち寄った公園で、ヒレンジャクの群れに会いました。他個体とのコミュニケーションのためか、鳴声もよく聞かれて幸せな時間でした。

I called at a park and encountered some flocks of Japanese Waxwing after visiting an art museum in the Northern Kanto in February. I counted up to 15 birds, but there were 5 or 6 more, a little distance from the biggest flock.
