I check my Bird Checklist of Japan (8th edition) every year. On February 28, my 2026 year list has 113 species, including non-native.
毎年、見聞した鳥を日本産鳥類目録（第8版）で記録しています。2月28日の種数チェックでは、113種（外来種4種 ガビチョウ、コジュケイ、ホンセイインコ、ドバトを含む）となりました。
Personally, the big events for me were that I watched a Wryneck, Japanese waxwings, and hearing a call of a kind of rail which is not commonly recorded in wetlands in East Japan.

先日、車を運転していたら、大学生くらいのヒッチハイカーが道端にいました。後続の車が近かったので通り過ぎてしまいましたが、どのくらいの割合で乗れるものなのでしょうか。若い頃にいろんな旅をして、多くの人の親切に触れて、思いやりのある大人になってくれることをバックミラーを見ながら期待しました。
The results of my survey on autumn migratory birds on the Shiretoko Peninsula, Hokkaido (2022–2024) were published in BINOS Vol. 32, the annual research report of the Kanagawa Branch of the Wild Bird Society of Japan.

私も知床半島で秋に3年調査した鳥の記録についての論文を発表いたしましたので、もしよろしければご覧ください。この発表のためにこれまで場所を伏せてブログに掲載していましたが、形にできたことで、ようやく場所を綴ることができました。
It was truly amazing to see massive flocks of Eurasian Greenfinch and White-tailed Eagles soaring overhead during my fixed-point surveys. I've realized that the true joy of birding isn't just about visiting as many places as possible.
私の上空をカワラヒワの大群や風に乗ってワシ達が渡っていく様子は、本当に素晴らしかったです。道東域のバードウォッチングに「一か所でじっとして鳥がやってくるのを待つ楽しさ」があることを知りました。
この記録を基礎にしてどなたかが発展的な調査をし、新しい発見につなげていただけたら嬉しいです。
Although I conducted this survey on my own, I hope these results inspire more birdwatchers to take an interest in the migratory patterns on the Shiretoko Peninsula, and perhaps even encourage someone（high expectations for young ornithologists!） to carry out further research in the area.
