I met an adult Ruff-legged Buzzard in January for the first time in 30 years. On that day, I watched the birds of prey with my Swarovski BTX (binocular type telescope) hovering flight using a headwind. It was very easy to check detail even for a long time since the telescope could be used with both eyes, and the amount of information that can be obtained was much larger than one-eye scope.
1月の話ですが、Jさんから情報をいただき、国内で久しぶりにケアシノスリを観ました。その日は向かい風を使った停空飛翔がよく見られ、その様子を双眼望遠鏡 スワロフスキーBTXで観察しました。望遠鏡を両眼で使えるので長い時間でも観察が楽ですし、片目での観察より得られる情報量が格段に増えます。
The tail and wings were moving in response by the wind to stop its own body in the air, the position of the head also did not make slight movements. And I could check detail of the alula its own wings in flight, and the characteristic band its own tail. I was also enjoyed details of the shape of the spots on its back, the black of the nails and the yellow of the toes that were sometimes seen had a more vivid impression than bird book.

風の微妙な変化に応じて尾羽と翼を動かして空中で体を停止させていること、頭の位置が微動だにしない様子はもちろん、飛翔時の小翼羽の使い方、特徴でもある尾羽の模様、背中の斑の形、時々見えた脚爪の黒や脚指の黄色は図鑑よりも鮮やかな印象があることも、詳細にわかりました。右眼に少し瘤のようなものが付いていたのも、観察から気づくことができました。画像からお分かりのように一番後ろから見ていたのですが、BTXのおかげでたくさんの情報を肉眼で得ることができ、楽しかったです。
BTXのおかげで「観察」が改めて楽しくなっています。
今回確認した内容は写真や動画でもわかることです。しかし、後で液晶画面で確認するのではなく、現場での観察で記憶できるほどに観られたことが、私としては感激でした。BTXは決して安くはないですが、鳥たちとの出会いでこれだけの充実感が得られることを考えれば、私には納得の価格です。BTXを開発したオーストリアの技術者と職人に、心からの感謝です。そしてJさん、貴重な情報をありがとうございました。
