Seabirds around Miura Peninsula

I got on a boat for researching seabird on 29th April around Miura Peninsula. Our main target was Japanese Murrelet. Because the number of the bird in 2019 spring is lower than the previous surveys at Jogashima island in the Sagami bay. It was necessary to check the murrelet whether they come offshore. We enjoyed a lot of seabirds, some flock of Ancient Murrelet, Streaked Shearwaters for example.

Ancient Murrelet

Streaked Shearwater

Short-tailed Shearwater

Japanese Murrelet

We were very happy to be able to count about maximum 140 (at least 90)Japanese Murrelets! Sometimes we could hear cute call.

Red Phalarope

We saw Red Phalarope 2 times, one was very beautiful red!

Black-footed Albatross

I was impressed by black-footed albatross flying in the bay. The size of the albatross is different from the family of shearwater.

Pacific Diver

Risso's Dolphin

It was a very fulfilling day for me we could see not only seabirds, but also Risso's dolphins.

海鳥調査に参加してきました。この日の第一目標は今春確認の少ないカンムリウミスズメを探す調査で、乗船した20名で一生懸命探したところ、これまでの船上調査での最高数を確認することができました。平成最後のバードウォッチングとなりました。
